About the Stockholm Summit

Let’s take education to a new level

Stockholm Summit 2012 is a unique opportunity to learn about the latest trends an ideas, and an invitation to join a global network of top level school leaders.

Is today’s education all it can be?
In keynote speeches and in seminars you will get the latest trends and the most interesting ideas from some of the greatest minds in education today. The Stockholm Summit is also a great opportunity to share experiences and learn from fellow school leaders around the world.

In May 2012 the third and last Stockholm Summit will be held. We welcome all previous participants and new participants to join us 28-30 May in Stockholm for the concluding conference. Top Level School Leaders from all over the world will once more gather and raise important and urgent questions about changes in education, how to prepare our young generation for future challenges we know little about.

The purpose of these three summits was to provide a meeting place for superintendents and other top level school officers where we together could learn more about global trends and changes in school policy worldwide as well as focusing on local experience and conclusions for school improvement.

The first Stockholm Summit in 2008 focused on the role of the school leader between political demands and pedagogical practice, on leadership in a world of change, leading processes of change.Learn more about the Stockholm Summit 2008 >>

The second Stockholm Summit in 2010 had more focus on the tools for the school leader – systems for assessment and follow-up, evidence based school improvement and research as driving force for change. Learn more about the Summit 2010 >>

This third Stockholm Summit will focus on the responsibility of the school leader, the responsibility to provide the best possible conditions for every learner to learn, whether it is a pupil, a teacher, a school leader or an organization. It would be of utmost importance for school leaders to be up to date with the latest brain research in order to provide the best possible conditions for learning, to know when it is best to do what, how the brain can compensate, how art and music contributes to the development of higher, cognitive functions as well as physical training. Recent research has proven that the brain is very plastic and has capabilities beyond our imagination. In the light of this, we will continue our search for best practice in school leadership, processes of change, quality assessment and evidence based school improvement.

The conference is organized by the City of Stockholm, the Swedish National Agency for Education, The Swedish Association of School Superintendents and the International School Connection.
